2025 has been dubbed the ‘year of the big squeeze’ for UK charities, with falling donations and rising operational costs putting a significant strain on many charities’ finances.1

Only half of people in the UK donated to charity in 2024, down from 61% in 2016,2 while 95% of charities have recorded at least one cost rise over the course of the year.3

How can many charities tap into the cash reserve opportunity available to them?

Research by independent consultancy firm Broadstone indicates that charities with an annual income of at least £0.5 million owned a total of £31 billion in cash assets.4 Assuming that this figure is held in current accounts, the 12, 973 UK charities which have this annual income could be missing out on £1.24 billion in interest earned.

However, many charities struggle to secure higher interest rates due to minimum deposit requirements.

With Akoni, there’s no minimum deposit requirements to start saving

Charities and non-profits can use Akoni to secure high interest rates in our wide range of Instant Access, Notice, and Fixed-Term products. If your cash assets are larger than £85K, you can enhance your charity’s FSCS protection by spreading funds across our UK-authorised and regulated banking partners. Our platform allows you to track your interest earned on a daily basis, making it easier to know your cashflow and plan your budget.

One application to the platform; multiple savings accounts

Rather than applying to each bank every time you want to open a new savings account, the only application you’ll need to do is your initial one to the Akoni platform. We aim to have your application processed within 3 business days once we have received all the necessary documents.

If you’re looking to boost your fundraising with your cash assets, email contact@akonihub.com or call 020 3137 9388 to speak to one of our account managers.
